FFCSeZ
Build your VIT timetable without the FFCS registration chaos.
Overview
An Android app that eases FFCS (Flexible Credit Course System) registration at VIT — letting students assemble timetables, track credits, filter slots, and keep several mock schedules ready before the real registration window opens.
The problem
FFCS registration is stressful and fast: students juggle faculty preferences, slot clashes, and credit limits under time pressure, usually across spreadsheets and screenshots. FFCSeZ makes that planning mobile and mistake-proof.
Architecture
- App [On the phone]: Android app (Java) (Timetables, clash checks, credits, filters)
- Local data [On the phone]: Room (On-device database); MongoDB Realm (On-device data)
- (sync) Cloud: Firebase (Backs the sync)
Course and faculty data live on the phone, so planning works on a flaky campus network.
Approach
A timetable builder
Add and remove courses with live credit tracking and clash detection, so an invalid schedule is caught while planning rather than at registration.
Slot and faculty filtering
Filter by slot and by faculty — with up-to-date faculty information baked into the selection UI — to refine preferences quickly.
Multiple mock timetables
Draft and compare several candidate schedules before committing to one on registration day.
Offline-ready data
Room and MongoDB Realm keep course and faculty data available on device, with Firebase backing sync — so the app stays usable even on flaky campus networks.
